If there is among you anyone in need, a member of your community in any of your towns within the land that the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hard-hearted or tight-fisted towards your needy neighbor. You should rather open your hand, willingly lending enough to meet the need, whatever it may be. Be careful that you do not entertain a mean thought, thinking, ‘The seventh year, the year of remission, is near’, and therefore view your needy neighbor with hostility and give nothing; your neighbor might cry to the Lord against you, and you would incur guilt. Give liberally and be ungrudging when you do so, for on this account the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you undertake. Since there will never cease to be some in need on the earth, I therefore command you, ‘Open your hand to the poor and needy neighbor in your land.’

Deuteronomy 15.7-11

Again, the Deuteronomist appeals to the people of YHWH to act in their God’s compassionate ways. It is also an urgent warning to the covenant community to not succumb to their new sense of wealth and view their neighbor of lower socioeconomic status in contempt.

So the Deuteronomist asks us, what are your attitudes towards the poor, the vulnerable, and the needy? More poignantly, what are your attitudes towards the homeless — even the “homeless” — who persistently ask for help in your daily routine? And finally, the Deuteronomist asks, how do you respond?

People have asked me if Cool Cough is going to be a serious band or if it’s something just to do for fun. I like to say that it’s not a serious band, but the music is. Being responsible and living in different cities means we don’t get to put a lot of time into the band as a whole. However the music is still very important to me and I take this opportunity to have a creative outlet very seriously.

All that to say that the video above is from Cool Cough’s 8th show. It was Josh’s 2nd with us and Chris’ first. Right now we’re a fairly sloppy band because that’s all we can afford to be right now. We had equipment problems, sour notes, and I still haven’t been able to make myself watch the Pixies cover we did. We’re still learning to mesh with eachother in the little time we have on stage together. I’ve been apart of other projects that had a couple practices and didn’t ever go anywhere because the band wasn’t ever ”ready” to play out. As sloppy as we are, I’m glad we’ve just gone for it depsite geographical barriers and an ever changing line-up. It’s a process that we’ve decided to put out in the open, for better or worse. It doesn’t hurt that I get to do it with some amazing friends too.

That’s all.

Here’s the first episode of our documentary series The Loose Ends. The first episode is a profile piece on Defeater and was shot/finished back in November. Derek was a genuinely great guy and was great to interview. Thanks again to the band and Bridge Nine for helping get all of this set up.

Today Will, a co-worker of mine, was mildly reprimanded for not following correct office wide e-mail protocol.  When he was visibly embarrassed about the whole situation I wanted to turn to him and say “William, it was really nothing.”

Cool Cough: “Judges”

My new band just put out a demo. This is my favorite song off of it. Go check it out.

I feel like a jerk for not listening to this sooner! This is so good… and I’m not just saying that because Harbor rules… this really is awesome. So glad to hear hardcore is still dark, still angry, and most of all, still progressing.

Thanks Thea. This means a lot, especially since I think you have amazing musical taste. We need to see each other soon.
