Damion Suomi & The Minor Prophets @ Brick & Mortar

Damion Suomi sits in the back room of Brick & Mortar, and for the first time tonight he doesn’t have 100 people fixing all their attention on him. It’s just a few days before he and his band, Damion Suomi & The Minor Prophets, leave for a full U.S. tour with Murder by Death, and a few strange turn of events have brought him here, sitting next to an old printing press in a dark room, sipping a Yuengling. Just one week before, Suomi had no idea how he would get his Minor Prophets across the country for the biggest tour of the band’s history. Their van needed a new transmission and money for things like that can be hard to come by when tour life consists of sleeping on other people’s floors and dining on dollar menus. With less than a week’s notice “A Night With Damion Suomi,” was organized. The fundraiser featured a set by Damion Suomi & The Minor Prophets, a Q & A session with Suomi and a short film called, “Damion Suomi & The Minor Prophets: A Year In Review,” which documents most of 2010 on the road. Now after sharing so many intimate moments of his life with the crowd that came to support him, Suomi sits with his legs crossed, his eyes slightly bloodshot, and he still doesn’t seem to be tired of talking about his love for the touring life…
