Touche Amore: “Home Away From Home”
“This place looks better from a passenger window or from staring at up above. When you’re chasing brightness, you start to lose concern with the damage done.”
I was kind of on the fence about the new Touche Amore record for a while, but now I can confidently say it’s amazing. This band’s reach has been expanding exponentially this year and I think it’s for good reason. They’re one of those rare bands that know how to provoke an emotional response in people that other bands can’t. They sound like how everyone has felt at one time. The lyrics are powerful, but they’re almost secondary. Even if you’re not what into their saying, you still get it.
This song is obviously about touring in a band, and a lot of bands have written these songs, but this one is different. Anyone can write a song about life on the road. Not a lot of people can pinpoint the undercurrent of emotional impulses that would make you want to do something so risky in the first place.
Seeing how last month marked the last time I may ever get into a van with some friends and equipment and drive around the country, this song seems pretty relevant to me right now.
